Christine Fields, 30, was the fiancée of Jose Perez and a devoted mother of three. Two of her children she shared with Jose. In November 2023, while delivering their second child via cesarean section at Woodhull Hospital, Christine tragically passed away due to complications during childbirth. According to The New York Times, investigators from the New York State Department of Health found that “a troubling lapse by a surgical team at a hospital in Brooklyn resulted in the recent death of a 30-year-old mother who gave birth by cesarean section,” citing an internal document. Now, her children are left to grow up with only the memory of their mother. Despite the profound loss, New York law currently offers no legal path for families to recover damages for emotional grief.
